What works as a day trip from Bergen
Three trips are well documented. The Mostraumen cruise is the shortest, a round trip on the water with no landing. The express boat to Flåm takes 5.5 hours each way, so it is a long day. Norway in a Nutshell strings together train, boat and bus and is offered from one day, with optional extra nights.
Geiranger, Trolltunga, Preikestolen and Kjerag are not on the same short day-trip footing. Each has its own page with the way in, for example the Geirangerfjord and Trolltunga. Glaciers and the Nordfjord villages Stryn, Loen and Olden have a separate guide at Stryn.

The trips in detail
What is known about each.
Mostraumen cruise
The operator Rødne sails from Zachariasbryggen, at Torget 2, and lists 3 to 3.5 hours. In 2026 adults pay NOK 890, children aged 4 to 15 pay NOK 445 and younger children go free. The fares for 2027 are listed separately, at NOK 940 and NOK 470. In September and October there are two departures a day, at 10:00 and 14:00, and in November and December one at 10:00. Booking ahead is recommended, but tickets are also sold at the pier, on board or at the tourist information. A Bergen Card gives 20% off according to the English product page.
The route goes through the Osterfjord and Mostraumen. It is not a trip to the Nærøyfjord and should not be booked as one.
Express boat to Flåm
The operator Norled lists a 5.5 hour crossing of the Sognefjord, with stops including Balestrand and Vik. On the listed times, the 08:00 boat out and the 15:30 boat back give about two hours in Flåm and 11 hours on the water. The product page showed NOK 1,295 for an adult one way in October 2026, so check the fare when you book. Children aged 6 to 17 and seniors from 67 were listed at NOK 648 and children under 6 travel free.
The Sognefjord →Norway in a Nutshell
The package is offered by Fjord Tours AS as a self-guided trip. A Bergen loop runs by train from Bergen to Myrdal, by the Flåm Railway to Flåm, by boat through the Nærøyfjord to Gudvangen, by bus to Voss and by train back to Bergen. It can also run in the other direction. This route is put together from the individual legs, so check the connections for your date. The package showed a from-price of NOK 2,698 and now advertises booking for 2027, so treat it as a guide, not a 2026 total.
Norway in a Nutshell →From Flåm
Once you are in Flåm, the railway and Nærøyfjord boat combination takes about 6 hours. That is 2 hours on the boat, a 20 minute shuttle, about 2 hours 10 minutes back on the train and waiting time in between.
What to check before you go
Changes that make older guides unreliable.
Rail works on the Bergen line
Bane NOR reports works between Finse and Myrdal from April 27 to November 8, 2026 (updated October 2, 2026). They affect trains from Oslo to Bergen and from Bergen to Myrdal. The listed windows are Monday to Saturday from 04:20 to 10:00 and Sundays from 21:20 to 10:00. This does not close the Flåm Railway for the day, but check the window for your train.
The bus from Voss to Gudvangen
From May 1, 2026 the tourist midday departures between Voss and Gudvangen moved from Skyss to Fjord Tours. Commuter and school trips in the morning and afternoon remain, and Voss to Stalheim stays with Skyss. If you build the loop yourself, do not price every daytime bus with a Skyss ticket. A saving over the package is not guaranteed.
Prices by year
Operators list 2026 and 2027 fares side by side, and some offers already show 2027. Check the year on any fare you compare.
Shorter days in winter
The Mostraumen cruise runs once a day at 10:00 in November and December. The express boat does not run after October 31. The Flåm Railway has four departures from Flåm from November 1 to December 12, 2026: 09:00, 11:45, 14:30 and 16:50.
